EL COLEGIO DEL CARDENAL DE MONFORTE DE LEMOS. EVOLUCIÓN DE LA TRAZA UNIVERSAL.

End of master project

The study of its extensive construction would be a too ambitious purpose in the time and space that we have, so it is not exhaustively covered, the configuration of the work as we see it today, but it is looking to recreate the original traces to from the current morphology of the building and the documentation that
has reached our days.

PROCESO METODOLÓGICO Y COMPOSITIVO DEL RENACIMIENTO EN GALICIA. 1499-1657

Doctoral Thesis, directed by Dr. Merino Cáceres and co-directed by Dr. Soraluce Blond; University of A Coruña

The architecture that we have as objective to analyze will be the bounded one between 1499 and 1657 for being these two reference dates for the Galician architecture. This period studied is not the beginning or the end of anything, a style is not formed from one year to the next, but in reality is a continuous flow of influences and evolution in clear consonance with the society of each moment … ..

MAESTROS CANTEROS DE TRASMIERA EN GALICIA (siglo XVI)

The present work has as an objective the study of the Cantabrian stonemasons, specifically of the Trasmiera region, who moved to Galicia in the 16th century developing an intense and valuable work. They participated in the constructive activity in the region, often in collaboration with teachers from different origins, which will originate a confluence of artistic influences that will determine the particularities and idiosyncrasies of Galician art of this period.

ESTUDIO INDIVIDUAL DEL PATRIMONIO MONUMENTAL DE GALICIA AFECTADO POR EL SEÍSMO de LISBOA en 1755

On November 1, 1755, a strong earthquake with oceanic epicenter in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula shook the buildings of many towns in Spain, Portugal and northwest Africa, causing a large number of victims and significant material damage. Its effects on the Portuguese capital, in the form of ruins of entire neighborhoods, fires and tidal waves, were tragic, which is why it is historically known as the Great Lisbon Earthquake. This thesis addresses the impact of this earthquake on the monumental heritage of Galicia, the damage it caused to buildings and the consequences in the medium and long term in its conservation. They are studied, from the perspective of the history of architecture and construction. See the College of Nª Sª de la Antigua on pages 67 to 92

LA FACHADA DE LA IGLESIA DEL COLEGIO DE LA COMPAÑÍA EN MONFORTE DE LEMOS. TEMPERAR LA ARQUITECTURA

The College of the Society of Jesus in Monforte de Lemos was sponsored by Cardinal Rodrigo de Castro and designed around 1592 by the Milanese-born architect Vermondo Resta and the Jesuit Andrés Ruiz. The church is the axis of the main façade of the building, a large bizarre front reminiscent escurialese. In fact, the relationship of the principal, the Jesuits and the architects with the circle of Juan de Herrera determined a great influence of the Herrerian classicism in the project; but the facade of the church is also one of the most interesting examples of “romanism” in Spanish Jesuit architecture at the end of the 16th century. His general scheme, based on two bodies joined by chariots, and other features clearly follow the treaties of Serlio and Vignola and the Gesù of Rome itself. The objective of this work is to reconsider the constructive circumstances and the sources of the ecclesial façade in order to better understand the terms of its conciliation between Italian and Spanish tradition, mannerism and classicism. THE TOWN OF MONFORTE IN LIGHT OF THE CADASTER OF ENSENADA (PART I)
“An example of the capital of a stately State”

Monforte is a new example of how the analysis of a small city can be applicable not only to the knowledge of local history but can also contribute to the understanding of the history of a broader scope.

The so-called Cadastre of the Marquis of Ensenada, Zenón de Somodevilla, Secretary of the Treasury of Fernando VI, 1 was drafted with the aim of reforming the chaotic, inefficient and unjust fiscal system in force in the 18th century in the Crown of Castile for a single tax or ” The only one “that taxes each person according to their heritage, earnings and work income, without exceptions or privileges, for which the elaboration of a cadastre was necessary, which would allow knowing the existing wealth in all the territories and kingdoms …
